They Demand I Walk Away

They demand I walk away,
Farther from the sun as it closes the day.

My courage wavering, I take the step one,
Looking in their eyes to see a hint of pun.

Their pupils dilated with rage and disdain,
The fire undettered even by the great rain.

And I wonder up in my head,
"What brought to this?
Why is the hatred won't relent,
All this for me being different ?"

And I turn around to cover the distance,
My head still clouded, too weak to take a stance.

Prepared to walk away, from 'them', 'that' and 'theirs',
Towards me and mine, joy or tears.
